High Street Slays – Velvet Trend AW16/17

Feel free to share:

Velvet Trend

This season’s key fabric is being killed on the high street. Read on to see how the high street slays and why velvet is one of the hottest trends this season.

Valentino, Rochas, Preen and Ellery.

Velvet is quite honestly everywhere, and we’re loving it! We have stroke able outfits! Any velvet goes this season with it’s texture (crushed), draping or body con, layers, on boots, on bags, on jewellery… you name it! Just go and get yourself some velvet ok!?

But fear not. You won’t have to go and break the bank (unless you want the Gucci bag that is everywhere and seriously coveted this season, see here). The High street has got you sorted ladies, with a nice mix of pieces from, casual, to smart, clothing to accessories. Here are some top picks.

Topshop

Pair together a co-ord for something different. This Topshop set (Blazer £49, Shorts £32), makes a great addition to your winter wardrobe and adds an element of texture to outfits. Pair together, or wear separately. Bonus points!! Pink is also huge this season! Win-win!

Or what about some neutral tones? This cowl neck, strappy midi dress (£29) is perfection. Pair with an oversized denim jacket and white trainers to dress down, or add some biker style accessories to toughen it up. For something more elegant, pair with a sheer duster coat, stilettos and some glitzy accessories to take you into party season.

For accessories and an injection of statement colour, try this amazing velvet buckle belt (£25). Add over jeans, paired with an oversized white shirt or clinch in your waist over a dress. Just shows, you don’t have to go all out in velvet. Little details sometimes are all that’s needed.

River Island

For really casual / sporty vibes, add in a velvet bomber jacket (£40). Pair with some embroidered jeans for a seriously on trend look.

For another accessory idea, in-keeping with the sporty vibe, add a velvet baseball cap (£12). A great and really inexpensive way of buying into the trend.

New Look

For a style similar to the shape of the yellow Valentino dress, see cover image, try thus burgundy New Look number (£24.99). Great for the upcoming party season. Pair with deep red lips and glitzy accessories.

Now lets talk shoes. Try these incredibly cute velvet ballerina bow pumps (£12.99). Wear with whatever really, jeans, skirts and even dresses. Just don’t go out in the rain with these on!

Let’s add some jewellery to the mix. Try this layered velvet choker (£7.99). Wear with anything mentioned so far. Chokers are also a huge hit the season, and have been for some time.
