PARIS CITY FASHION WEEK
On the last Friday of the Parisian Fashion Week, Pynck had a rendez-vous with the Eiffel Tower. Upon arrival, I was guided by the nice staff towards the first floor of the Eiffel Tower where I enter a white lounge. Sitting front row, I take advantage of the show’s slight delay to stroll along the beautiful bay windows of the salon overlooking Paris.
After a few minutes, singer Megan Marie opens the show beautifully with one of her own pieces. Her warm, almost soulful notes set the tone for a welcoming, out-of-the-ordinary spectacle. Aimed at young designers, Paris City Fashion Week brings together upcoming brands such as Michael Lombard, Lily Larotto, Christos Willette Battle, Nadia Azumi, Camellia Couture, Femata Couture, Natacha Van, Delise’Ana Custom Designs, Lulu and Gigi Couture. Some brands are indisputably couture, while others are more about ready-to-wear. There is something for everyone, from the revisited neo-punk formal wear to the kids’ collections; from hippie chic floral prints to mesmerising gowns inspired by Berber culture.

As I was leaving the show, I encountered a young woman studying pastry-making at the famous Angelina Café, rue de Rivoli. She told me the show’s risk-takings inspired her to design clothes mixing sewing techniques with pastry volumes. Paris City Fashion Week was a show truly conducive to ideas and supportive of young aspirational designers seeking to broaden their clientele.
