When you bring your shoes to store to be recycled, we send them to SOEX who inspect them. 70% of these running shoes are reused.
The shoes that aren’t sent for re-use are broken down into raw materials: a process which begins by shredding them into tiny pieces. A variety of techniques are then used to separate out the different categories of raw materials.
The running shoes have now been separated into five categories of raw materials – rubber, leather, fluff, metal and foam – and can be recycled for a variety of new purposes.
