RHA Kids Workshop
Light Taming for Beginners with artist Helen McMahon

2pm – 4.30pm, Saturday 14th March

Ages 8 – 12

Booking is essential.

Join artist Helen MacMahon to investigate the work of light artists. McMahon will explore her own art practice with participants, demonstrating how she splits, bends, folds and bounces light to create works of art. Participants will discover and explore the unique qualities of light using a number of everyday materials and optical devices. Participants will also learn how to harness light to make artworks of their own.

Helen MacMahon is an artist who explores the phenomena of light, movement, perception and space, revealing the ecosystem that exists between the viewer and these elements. Her artworks take the form of immersive installations, sculpture and photography. Much of her work is experimental in nature and she uses commonplace materials, such as mirrors, glass, and lenses that have the potential to act in surprising ways when illuminated. MacMahon was a 2019/2020 artist in residence at RHA Wilton Park Studios, an IPUT/RHA initiative.

For more information please contact Róisín Bohan, Learning and Public Engagement Curator at engagement@rhagallery.ie or tel: 01 661 2558.
