NCBI, the National Council for the Blind Ireland has launched a new online shop direct from its warehouse in Kildare, Ireland.

Everything from comfortable casuals to top designer labels is available at NCBI online

The move to online shopping for the charity has been made with Thriftify to keep up with the impact of Covid-19 on all 120 stores in Ireland, which was made in response to sharply declining revenue.

The Irish charity for people with sight loss must raise €3 million each year to continue supporting all the services offered, including a variety of supports and services such as counselling, employment advice and emotional support.

NCBI online stocks a good range of business attire

“We were one of the first charities to begin working with Thriftify, initially selling books and other small items so it is great to now be able to sell our fashion as well,” said NCBI Head of Retail, Rosie Henson. “As retailers we are always seeking to innovate and improve how we do things. With the temporary closure of our shops we have had to act fast to find a way of maintaining a connection with our customers and develop alternative ways to raise funds for our services.”

Thriftify provides an online retail platform for Irish charities selling goods and merchandise to deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus. Its core purpose is to create a movement of positive purchasing by connecting charity shops with consumers who care about alternative sourcing of goods and merchandise.

Thriftify CEO Rónán Ó Dálaigh said: “I suppose the great thing about digital technology like ours is that it enables retailers who would have typically just relied on the punter walking in the door for sales to broaden their reach to the global market. I think there is great opportunity for bricks-and-mortar retailers to embrace digital commerce as a way of making more money, but also as a way of building resilience.”

Just about everything from top to toe is available in fashion at NCBI online

Among the designer collections on the platform are Karen Millen, Boohoo, Fran & Jane and Redherring while lines from M&S, Zara, Debenhams and French Connection are available, along with clothing from Australian store Pia Gladys Perey.

“Fashion is a new area for us,” added Rónán Ó Dálaigh. “Up until now, we have focused the technology on items that are barcoded. We have had to turn things around incredibly quickly to get the solution for fashion working, but we are delighted to be able to help in whatever way we can.”
