Lawyer Rosemarie Hayden spoke at the webinar about the Irish law protecting women in the home and the impact of Covid-19

The webinar, chaired by Cathy Smith BL with lawyer Rosemarie Hayden, Denise Roche of the National Women’s Council of Ireland and Anne Conlon BL looks at the effect of Covid-19 on women in the home as the Irish Constitution article comes due for further consideration at the Citizens’ Assembly.

The webinar in association with the NWCI considers a policy brief by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres about the impact of Covid-19 on women.

“We know that the (Irish) Government is saying (lockdown) is for health reasons because of the spread of the virus, but there have to be ways of doing this,” said NWCI director Orla O’Connor. “It seems too restrictive to pause screening services. We are talking about people’s lives and it is about striking a balance.”
