Grill Shack original hot sauce to make a welcome return to Irish Aldi stores

Feel free to share:

FOR anyone who has tried and loved the Grill Shack’s Original Hot Sauce and wondered why it has disappeared from Irish Aldi stores since jars first debuted last May fear not, creator Chef Aidan Kelly is preparing the next batch for release soon.

As it happened the original sauce, great for barbecues and hot wings that first appeared in Chef’s restaurant in the back of Roche’s ‘The Sinking Pub’ in Donadea, Kildare Ireland flew off the shelves within days of its initial release, and Aldi has requested a new consignment of new jars in greater volume than before.

“People who tried it once want it so hopefully they will see it again,” said Chef Aidan Kelly when he met up with Pynck.com in the Grill Shack Steakhouse. “I am really fortunate. I haven’t really knocked on anyone’s door yet or really pushed it.”

Ever since the Michelin-starred chef opened his rather rustic doors just around two years ago, the simple sauce of his own creation has been on the menu. The recipe was not only met with the delight and accolades of the locals but across Ireland – until stocks at Aldi stores ran out.

Chef Aidan Kelly has set up a takeaway filled with barbecued goodies in the Grill Shack’s original hot sauce

In recent weeks Chef Aidan has been hard at work, first in the Irish government’s Phase 3 recovery that brought the reopening of restaurants including The Grill Shack but since the latest reversal, the restaurant may be closed until later in August but the takeaway is thriving while batches are being prepared for release in September to Aldi stores.

The Kerry, Ireland chef, who fell in love with Kildare and one of its own first came across the ‘Grow With Aldi’ competition before the company made a ‘special buy’ offer that introduced his product nationwide.

“Aldi people are lovely people to work with,” Aidan explained. “I have gone back in to make 6,000 or 7,000 units.”

The sauce, one of only 40 products chosen by Aldi for the shelves for the end of last May is low in fat, salt and sugars, is vegetarian friendly and certified gluten-free while containing only a few simple ingredients, and that is just how Chef Aidan likes it.

“Every chef has a recipe and it is really about giving it a go,” he said. “If you have time and you get organised, try something but keep it simple. Chefs are very ‘cheffy’. They say, ‘I have this beautiful relish’ and they have got 20, 30 different things boiling away there. Just be smart about it.”

For all of us who have tried the Grill Shack Original Hot Sauce and loved it, September just cannot come soon enough when once again, Aldi store shelves will be stocked with a very ‘special buy’. Meanwhile the wait has begun until Chef Aidan Kelly himself will once again be behind the pass, cooking up wings, beef and pork, fish dishes and vegetarian platters with his soon-to-be-famous sauce.
