Leopardstown Racecourse – It is officially National Hunt season
With the 2020 National Hunt Season in full swing, we look ahead to our two National Hunt Festivals – The Leopardstown Christmas Festival in December and Dublin Racing Festival which takes place in February 2021. The Leopardstown National Hunt Season features top class racing including a whopping 14 Grade 1 Races!
The National Hunt season at Leopardstown may only contain 8 jumps fixture, but what we lack in quantity we more than make up for in quality! The 2019/2020 season was jam packed with top class National Hunt horses, forget waiting until March, if you want to see the crème de la crème of jump racing superstars tune into the Leopardstown Christmas Festival and Dublin Racing Festival!
Lets start at the top, Honeysuckle. The first mare to win the PCI Irish Champion Hurdle since Dawn Run! Piloted by Racheal Blackmore who is the first lady to ever win the Irish Champion Hurdle. Honeysuckle showed herself to be a truly gifted mare with a gutsy win in the PCI Irish Champion Hurdle at Dublin Racing Festival and followed up this performance by taking the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Not many horses have done the Savills Chase, Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup double, but Delta Work did! The nearly black gelding sports the colours of Gigginstown and LOVES Leopardstown – he has never been out of the first 4 at Leopardstown including wins in the Neville Hotels Novice Chase, Savills Chase and Paddy Power Gold Cup.
