International jockeys set to battle it out in Hong Kong’s Happy Valley

ESTABLISHED greats and young rising stars will compete in the International Jockeys Championship at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong on 9 December for a truly global event in the most lucrative challenge of its kind in the world.

The Longines International Jockeys Championship will open a week of premiere racing in Hong Kong

 

The Hong Kong-based sextet of homegrown Vincent Ho and imports Zac Purton, Joao Moreira, Karis Teetan, Alexis Badel along with Neill Callan will vie with Britain’s rising stars Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle and joined by William Buick and Ryan Moore along with France’s Pierre-Charles Boudot and Michael Barzalona.

The International Jockeys Championship at Happy Valley premiers as the first in a week of major events followed on 13 December by the Longines Hong Kong International Races at Sha Tin Racecourse.

Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Racing Executive Director said: “We have a fantastic line-up of gifted riders and a young duo in Tom Marquand and Hollie Doyle competing for the first time will add even greater excitement to what is always a thrilling contest. The Hong Kong Jockey Club has succeeded again in putting together and outstanding cast of riders and we are looking forward to a great night of sport set against the backdrop of one of the most iconic racecourses in the world.

The jockeys’ challenge races are worth a combined HK$6 million in prize money and a bonus prize fund of HK$800,000 to be split three ways among the three most successful riders in increments of HK500,000, HK$200,000 and HK$100,000, respectively.
