Prosperous Financial Services founder and Irish television’s ‘How to Be Good With Money’ host was late to the webinar on 20 May but for good reason: the author of the debut book by the same name has just signed for a second volume, the topic to be revealed closer to publication.

“We are going into a new world,” was all that Eoin McGee revealed as the webinar opened. I shop in Louis’s (Copeland). We have been home for the last 14 months and we are going back into the workforce and we are starting to meet people again.”

The lockdown experience for Louis Copeland has been similar to so many who have been doing their utmost to pivot towards online shopping. Undeterred by a bespoke service the brand is so well known for, Louis Copeland has shifted towards a new ‘On Running’ sportswear line that has in every sense of the word, ‘virtually’ sold out.

The webinar fronted by Eoin McGee and David O’Connor revealed that while formal and business attire will always have a place, flexibility is key to the post-pandemic workplace.

“It is all about comfort now,” said David O’Connor. I don’t think people should be wearing sportswear in the workplace. (People) are asking for advice to put together the top with the bottom. If you invest in really good quality clothing it will last for a long time and you will enjoy wearing it.”

Advice from the webinar was to change a more formal business look by removing the tie

Additional advice from the webinar was to view what is worn at any time as a personal brand that can be blended with the workplace whether in a casual or formal setting.

Key to being good with style were accessory pieces including ties and pocket squares, easily removed for a more casual look. The ‘swacket’ featured prominently in the webinar, the knitted garment a blending of the jacket and sweater that can be dressed in sneakers and jeans for a more casual look or leather shoes and trousers for the office, jackets that are quite different to the swackets seen in women’s activewear.

“Dress for the job that you want,” explained David O’Connor. “The way you look is your brand and if you present yourself correctly in the workplace you get more respect whether in a casual or formal setting.”

As well as a good tie and pocket square for more formal and business-like attire, key takeaways in a capsule wardrobe included a sweater and an Oxford shirt.

Added David O’Connor, “I think guys need to think about putting together their wardrobe and think in a varied way (that includes a) suit.”
