That gut feeling may hold answers to reaching complexion perfection

Feel free to share:

BEAUTY, as we know, is more than skin deep. We talk about that inner glow that some of us exude – that certain something that is all about health and wellbeing.

A growing trend this year has been in looking to our gut for the answers to our beauty dilemmas, anything from skin breakouts to rashes, puffiness and bloating, the beauty industry has lately turned inward for a look at gut health. It’s understood to lie in our microbiomes, in the wealth of bacteria, the good and the bad that inhabit our gut and the key to wellbeing seems to respond to the use of a healthy dose of good bacteria found in probiotics.

An Instagram reel produced by the award-winning beauty influencer Michelle ‘Mrs Makeup’ Regazolli Stone, who suffers from IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) with pharmacist Una O’Hagan of Meagher’s Pharmacy Group recently looked in-depth at gut health and its impact on overall wellbeing.

“I have made massive changes in my diet, starting on (a probiotic) and a fitness class and even in three weeks I feel fantastic,” said Michelle, a mother of three sons. “It’s little habits I got myself into to get back on track.”

With so many probiotic food supplement brands available it’s best to seek advice from a health care professional

It seems the gut is at the centre of our overall wellbeing whether we are glowing from within or when we can’t work out what is causing stubborn skin problems. The answer may lie in the discomfort we feel, particularly after a course of antibiotics or due to chronic health issues including IBS.

“If you have good bacteria in your gut you have a healthy microbiome,” said Una O’Hagan. “If you don’t have good bacteria you don’t have a healthy microbiome so it all starts with your gut.
