POLO Fest at Bunclody Polo Club Ireland was all polo, all the time, the evening barbecue under the stars marking the turning point between qualifiers and finals for three tournaments at the County Wexford club.

While Wexford would rise to the top of six teams, ending the season at Bunclody for the coveted Patron’s Cup and with three more in the festival’s low goal tournament, three ladies teams were in for the inaugural Connolly’s Red Mills tournament. The family-owned advanced animal nutrition and healthcare solutions enterprise got behind the ladies for the first time earlier this month.

“It was a great performance,” said Jack Nolan of Connolly’s Red Mills when he presented the inaugural cup. “Everyone played their part. It could have gone either way in the end and fair play to Bunclody.”

Lady players currently make up around one-third of the polo playing population in Ireland and at tournament level are playing on handicaps from -2 to 2 goals, the majority based at Bunclody Polo Club and Bishopsland Polo Club in County Kildare.

Bunclody Polo Club is home to the only Ladies Tournament in Ireland.

“When asked to sponsor the Ladies Cup we were more than happy to do so and it could lead on to more things in the future,” added Jack Nolan.
