LONDON FASHION WEEK Spring/Summer 2022: TEMPERLEY LONDON
The Death on the Nile boat moored and TEMPERLEY LONDON’s mysterious heroines stepped off to explore.

A bevy of ravishingly sensual heroines float about lazily as they take a moment to relax and unwind at a decayed swimming pool with ancient tiles and an overgrown lush garden, away from the scene of the crime. Then they flit into the ancient library, flicking absent-mindedly through dusty volumes on the shelves and contemplatively putting the last pieces into the sage-aged puzzle. Who dunnit?

As if a throwback to Temperley London’s Fall 2021 offering, the show kicked off with a badass rock and roll riff as a backdrop to the awesome visual spectacle. The Seventies-inspired theme of Fall 2021 also resurfaced again in the patterns and embellishments of the ensembles, as did the denim theme. But colour wise it was a completely different kettle of fish: unlike the browns of the Fall collection, this time we saw sunripe shades of hot pink, dusty blues, pale lemons and a spectrum of nudes and metallics.
On set the mysterious dramatics continued … we were treated to models in ultra-feminine, floor-sweeping emerald silk gowns, their hair shiny black, their lips blood red and they’re dressed for the tropics … Moroccan necklaces, chunky gold bracelets, dangling Swarovsky chandelier earrings, head scarves and oversized sunglasses completed looks that were as sultry as they were decadent. At times models glammed up in elegant heeled platforms and at other times they were nonchalantly barefoot. The shoe of the show, however, was an exotic-looking, knee-high leather gladiator sandal that looked oh so picture-perfect and of the moment!
Models in glamorous top-stitched treble-denim safari suits and easy-fit jumpsuits floated from one awe-inspiring backdrop to another. Sometimes models were vampishly decked out in all black, sporting exquisitely embroidered housecoats and hats, at times they were in the most endearing scalloped, pastel-hued sundresses imaginable. And it all worked as if by magic, because the tread that ran through the entire collection was Temperley London’s unmistakable signature of feminine, bohemian, luxe.
The brand’s unique trademark elements were visible in every miniscule detail of this Spring/Summer 2022 collection: the metallic peplum dresses, the spectacular sequin–embroidered nude gowns, the voluminous sleeves and extravagant ruffles, the alluring, transparent fabrics with their art deco features, the exotic geometric palm and zebra print textiles, the trompe l’oeil ribbon work and deft collages all pointed towards the inimitable Alice Temperley’s touch.
This is a collection for feminine souls, it ticks every box for Temperley London’s loyal cadre and will no doubt attract a whole new set of Temperley enthusiasts. We’d all like to be the heroines at the heart of the mystery on that boat in John Guillermin’s 1978 Death on the Nile. And no, we don’t mind stopping off in Marrakesh for a short break while you’re busy solving the mystery – it’ll give us the opportunity to sport that metallic sequin kaftan over cocktails on a roof top bar.
