Feel free to share:

Relive the Best of the Oscars 2022 Fashion and Beauty on a Night that Saw More than its Fair Share of Thrills and Spills. It was a Couture, Hair and Makeup Extravaganza, All Set Against the Backdrop of that Famous Red Carpet.

Posing on the glitzy red carpet in their personal choices of outfit, accessories and often also companion, the sensational stars of our silver screens put themselves up for scrutiny, criticism and praise by fashionistas across the globe. For one night the stars came together and shone brightly on the ultimate stage, each trying to outdo the next in the glam category! Needless to say their presence and bold fashion sensibilities and grooming gave us much to ponder on. It needs to be said – and best to get it out of the way – that all this glamour was somehat marred by the discontent on Europe’s eastern front as well as an Oscar recipient’s rather unorthodox stage behavior … However, it was all part and parcel of a night to remember, and one in which there were as many enthralling moments as there were iconic frocks and suits.

Amongst all the awards, with Coda winning Best Picture, Dune Best Cinematography, The Power of the Dog winning Best Cinematography and Will Smith Best Actor in King Richard, there was a multitude of looks to feast one’s fashion eyes on. The stars aligned themselves with their beloved designers and each pairing made a deliberate and public statement of intent and allegiance to the current issues of our time: from the environment and the importance of sustainability within fashion and our planet, to health (in the wake of a global pandemic), politics and everything in between. We totally adored, for example, Kirsten Dunst’s vintage choice of a ruffled strapless blood red Christian Lacroix Fall 2002 gown and thought benedict Cumberbatch’s support for Ukraine on the lapel of his dashing Armani suit was most commendable.

There were loads of delightful pastels, there was much striking pillar box red, there was the inevitable classic black and opulent gilt in a fashion parade where Miu Miu, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Armani rubbed shoulders with Alia, Chanel, Gucci and many other fashion stalwarts. What with sculptural updos, elongated plats, retro chignons, tousled locks and coloured bangs, the stars’ hairstyles also got the chins wagging! Make-up looks included sensational smoky eyes, shimmering red lips and there was plenty drama in the eyebrow department.

And the winner is …?

The truth is there were too many gems to choose just one or two! We’re pleased we’re not in the Oscar committee’s shoes having to pick just one winner per category! We made a little selection of our favourite fashion statements amongst the sustainable, the environmentally and politically aware, the outrageous and the simply divine. Each ensemble has its own charm and merit.

And what would Oscar night be without our top picks of the spectacular hair and beauty looks? We have to admit that it was easier to choose a favourite in the hair and beauty stakes: Lupita Nyong’o’s stunningly sculptural updo, metallic smoky eyes and ruby lips were so dramatic, for us she’s a winner! Come on, see if you agree! Join us for some déjà vu on an Oscar night in 2022 that’ll no doubt go down in the history books as one that will most certainly not be forgotten soon.
