Nations unite to celebrate Argentina’s National Day

HER Excellency Moira Wilkinson, Ambassador of Argentina in Ireland was at the All Ireland Polo Club in Phoenix Park, Dublin to welcome the diplomatic corps who celebrated Argentina’s National Day along with the bonds of friendship in polo that are long established between Ireland and Argentina.

Celebrated at the historic polo Pavilion in Europe’s largest walled park on 25 May, the exact date of the beginning of Argentina’s independence 212 years ago, Ambassador Wilkinson will return on 9th June for an exhibition match between Argentina and Ireland, the Argentine line-out to include one of the stars of the feted Argentine Open. The Open is known as the ‘Olympics of Polo’, and Luis Lalor who will line out for Argentina is esteemed for his skill in guiding Argentina to a number of wins against countries including England and the USA.

Diplomats attending Argentina’s National Day included His Excellency Giovanni Buttigieg, Ambassador of Malta in Ireland. The island nation is putatively home to the oldest polo club in Europe although the distinction is shared with the All Ireland Polo Club.
