Sesquicentennial next up for polo in Ireland

Feel free to share:

THE style stakes were high at the All Ireland Polo Club end-of-season ball with award recipients and presenters turned out in their finest to mark the close of the 149th year of what is affectionately known as ‘Hurling on Horseback’.

The AIPC has hosted tournaments since 1873 but for national emergencies when the polo ground in Phoenix Park, Dublin was turned over quite literally to provide fruit and vegetable allotments. The annual ball and awards presentations mark the end of the summer season of polo at the AIPC.

Polo returns to the ground in June next year for the 150th year in Phoenix Park.
