Siobhan Herbst, Blondie Horan, Natasha Tisminiezky and Nell Macaire earned their first win on International Women’s Day (8 March) against India before going on to defeat the Czech Republic in the final on 12 March. England battled through four chukkas for their win against Ireland, giving up four early goals before finishing with 8 goals to 4.5 from Ireland.

“Ireland started with a 1.5-goal handicap against the strongest team on paper, England,” said Siobhan Herbst told Pynck.com. “Ireland went in strong from the first chukka scoring four goals. England got back in the game and finished 8 to 4.5 goals.”

The Czech Republic had defeated England in their match before going on to face India for the win by 2 goals. Ireland’s final against the Czech Republic was fought to a draw before a defensive backhand from Blondie Horan at the Irish goalmouth was backed up by Natasha Tisminiezky in a gallop to the Czech goalmouth to score on 5 goals to Ireland and 4 to the Czech Republic.

“The game continued to the final chukka still on a draw with the last 30 seconds being played,” said Siobhan Herbst. “A backhand in front of the Irish goal was finished off with the winning goal for Ireland.”
