Very rare Princess Diana garments at Newbridge Silverware
‘Princess Diana – Fashion from the Wardrobe of The People’s Princess’ has opened at Newbridge Silverware in County Kildare Ireland and continues throughout the summer months before being moved in August to the Beverly Hills, Los Angeles Julien’s Auctions for the scheduled ‘Legends’ exhibition.
The exhibition of iconic garments will be on view at Newbridge Silverware in the Museum of Style Icons, including two from designer Catherine Walker and one from Bruce Oldfield, also a renowned designer.
“Princess Diana was much loved all around the world,” said Newbridge Silverware CEO William Doyle. “Her fashion and style made her one of the most enduring style icons of all time and we are delighted to work with Julien’s Auctions to bring these three very important Princess Diana garments to Ireland.”
The collection which is open free to the public includes a stunning evening gown designed by Catherine Walker in black faille and jade silk worn in 1986 by Princess Diana to a prestigious dinner at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Canada. The breath-taking scarlet red silk gown by British fashion designer Bruce Oldfield was worn by Princess Diana in 1991 at a film premiere in the Odeon Leicester Square London; a British-designed gown by Catherine Walker in white silk crepe with bold bands of sumptuous black silk velvet completes garments on view, which will be auctioned at Julien’s Auctions in August.
“Julien’s Auctions is honoured to bring these three rare and important garments worn by the beloved icon and cultural figure, Princess Diana to the Museum of Style Icons in Ireland,” said Julien’s Auctions founder and president Darren Julian. “As they haven’t been seen in over 30 years, we expect that there will be huge global interest in this property, and we are looking forward to showcasing them to the public before our ‘Legends’ auction with TCM (Turner Classic Movies) on the 26th and 27th of August.”
The three garments, last viewed in public when they were auctioned at Christie’s in 1997 will be shown alongside the Museum of Style Icon’s permanent Princess Diana exhibition, which includes the famous pale pink Emanuel blouse in 1981 for the official engagement portrait by Lord Snowdon.
