The latest edition of our IFI Weekly

Opening this week in-cinema: The Isabelle Huppert-starring La Syndicaliste; a moving portrait of familial relationships in Mother and Son; and Nobel prize winner Annie Ernaux’s The Super-8 Years.

Special events this week include a preview screening of the beautiful documentary Name Me Lawand followed by a Q&A with director Edward Lovelace on Sun 2nd, restored and unseen footage of a pivotal night in Bowie’s career in Ziggy Stardust: The Global Premiere on Mon 3rd, and this month’s Irish Focus screening on Weds 5th is Surrender Your Horns, a film of eclectic depictions of real and fantasy worlds, followed by a Q&A with filmmaker and artist Bryony Dunne, hosted by Alice Butler of aemi.

Our Fallout season begins here at the IFI with the most entertaining depiction of humanity’s end, Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove, on Sat 1st, while Fail Safe presents a chillier, more frightening look at the consequences of nuclear weapons, screening Sun 2nd, and In This Corner of The World, a beautiful anime, depicts ordinary life in the years leading up to the cataclysm, screening Tues 4th. PREVIEW: NAME ME LAWAND + Q&A

Sunday 2nd, 15.10

Edward Lovelace’s poetic, visually striking documentary follows the dramatic progress of Lawand, a five-year-old Kurdish boy, deaf since birth, whose family has fled conflict in Iraq to take refuge in the UK.

This preview screening will be followed by a Q&A with Lovelace, hosted by Sheila de Courcy, and accompanied by an ISL interpreter.
