Hair and beauty solutions from the new Blow Academy at UCD Belfield

Feel free to share:

BLOW Hair & Beauty Academy has opened at the UCD campus in Belfield, bringing opportunities and employment to an Irish sector experiencing talent shortfalls.

One of four to be opened by owner Noelle McCarthy since 2003, the new training centre is expected to employ 50 staff in addition to the current compliment of 60 people in salons across Dublin. Minister of State for Enterprise, Trade and Employment officially opened the academy supported by student services at UCD, offering a full-time diploma in hairdressing along with a variety of part-time and short courses dominated by aesthetics and beauty.

“I would encourage any interested students to explore the courses on offer from full-time to part-time courses in hair and beauty,” said Neale Richmond, TD. “Like so many sectors the hair and beauty industry is experiencing a talent shortage and academies like this are a great way to remind students that there are plenty of opportunities for training and employment.”

Training kits and equipment will be provided as part of the course fee and Blow Academy has places for successful applicants of the Training Support Grant from the Government of Ireland. For owner Noelle McCarthy, this fourth venture is the fulfilment of a dream that crystallised over 20 years since opening her first salon.

“Our environment works for everyone of any skill or age,” said Noelle McCarthy when she spoke with Pynck.com at the official opening. “I am very excited because of the (UCD) students here. They want to look well and all I wanted was the opportunity to offer something for them, and it led to this academy.”

The new academy while offering hairdressing and beauty to UCD’s student population will be opening to the public in the weeks to come while training is set to provide intensive training to qualifying candidates.

“The course prospectus offers intensive training in aspects of hair and beauty,” said Lain Ashley-Woodman, Blow Academy Master Educator and formerly with Harvey Nichols and Brown Thomas. “It will enable someone who has had not experience before to immerse themselves in our world and go out feeling confident. There will be some things from (international) fashion weeks and the editorial side of things.”
