Piano Dreams, Ransom ’79, Trainspotting & More at The Irish Film Institute

Feel free to share:

It’s been a huge week in world cinema, with the Cannes Film Festival on-going in France. The IFI team have been in attendance, feasting on film and finding the very best new releases to bring home to our Dublin cinemagoers and to audiences across Ireland on our IFI@Home streaming channel in the coming weeks and months. You can check out some of the festival highlights with our Head of Cinema Programming David O’Mahony on the IFI Letterboxd.

From today, Friday May 24, and running throughout the week, we have some super new films in cinema including Piano Dreams and Ransom ’79, both of which open this evening with two special post screening Q&As with their respective directors. And it’s time to ‘Choose Life’ all over again with the re-release of Danny Boyle’s legendary Trainspotting.

On Saturday, May 25, we are delighted to welcome Dublin Dance Festival to the IFI, with an Irish Focus screening of This Is It 8 – Dance Portraits at 4.30pm.

Martin Scorsese’s Film Foundation initiative The World Cinema Project continues at the IFI with screenings of Insiang this coming Saturday at 1.30pm and Pixote on Sunday May 26th at 3.30pm.

We have a fabulous IFI Family double bill of The Smeds and the Smoos and Superworm this Sunday at 11am. Grab the kids for a cinema adventure and why not book in for a delicious, fresh cooked post screening Brunch at the IFI Café-Bar, where the little ones will enjoy doodling on their free activity sheets. Or enjoy some down time with our Mystery Matinee screening also on Sunday, at 1pm!

It is a closely guarded secret, so don’t even ask! This is potluck cinema which won’t disappoint!

Monday evening, May 27 at 6pm catch the IFI Youth Panel May movie choice the heart-warming Little Miss Sunshine and on Wednesday May 29 our Wild Strawberries screening at 11am will be The Great Escaper. On Thursday May 30 at 6.30pm join us for a showing of The Arbor, introduced by theatre and opera director Tom Creed.

Prefer a night in on the couch with a great movie? IFI@Home is our jam-packed streaming channel, where you can watch some of the very best in Irish and world cinema in the comfort of your own home, no matter where you are in Ireland. New additions this week include Rome, Open City and Revolutions.
