Emmy Nominations: The Biggest Snubs and Surprises
As expected, Shōgun and The Bear dominated this morning’s Emmy nominations across the drama, comedy, and limited series categories—but beyond them, voters threw us a few curveballs. Several Oscar winners once assumed to be safe for nominations didn’t make the cut. A few viral hits weren’t strong enough to take down the late-night old guard. Somehow, voters remembered a long-canceled HBO drama while ignoring two of its most heavily campaigned properties. And wait: Despite those reviews, Palm Royale got how many nominations? Read on to see David Canfield and Rebecca Ford break down the biggest shocks of Emmy noms morning—from who we were most surprised to see to who we were most surprised to, well, not see.

Elsewhere in HWD, we run down the full list of contenders in major Emmy categories; Richard Lawson reviews the gripping, slightly queasy-making documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story; Jon Stewart welcomes an old foe back to the Daily Show desk; and Lawson, Chris Murphy, and Hillary Busis cordially invite you to join VF’s weekly House of the Dragon watch party, via our podcast, Still Watching.
