Sea Beyond Event in Venice – Ocean Literacy World Conference 2024
On June 7th and 8th 2024, Prada Group and UNESCO-IOC presented the Ocean Literacy World Conference 2024 in Venice. The main objective of the conference was to bring together the delegates from UNESCO Member States and ocean literacy experts from around the world to contribute to the Venice Declaration for Ocean Literacy in Action. In ten points, the document sets out concrete recommendations for rebalancing the relationship between the ocean and humanity, with interventions in the social, educational, political, administrative and economic spheres.
The event was the occasion to announce the new partnership between Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and UNESCO. This collaboration is aimed at spreading the messages of ocean conservation to the large audience of the upcoming 37th America’s Cup. During the conference, the first SEA BEYOND Ideas Box, the result of the collaboration between SEA BEYOND and Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, was also presented, in the presence of the Creator Philippe Starck and Patrick Weil, Founder and President of Bibliothèques Sans Frontières, who recounted its ten-year history in a dedicated conversation.
On 8 June, the SEA BEYONDers – ambassadors of the SEA BEYOND project – were nominated: Titouan Bernicot, Founder and CEO of Coral Gardeners and National Geographic Explorer; Giovanni Chimienti, Marine Biologist and National Geographic Explorer; Maya Gabeira, Big Wave Surfer and UNESCO Champion for Ocean and Youth; Valentina Gottlieb, Environmental Advocate and Actress; Carmelo Isgrò, Biologist and Founder of the MuMa Milazzo Sea Museum; Elisabetta Zavoli, photojournalist and National Geographic Explorer, who led a dedicated panel and involved children and adults in thematic workshops.
