Sumptuous, ultra-luxe and drop-dead glamorous may be a good way to describe this relatively new kid on the block of a fashion week in the glitzy desert city and international hub of Dubai.

Dubai Fashion Week’s fifth edition played out over a week in February 2025, to a star-studded audience of A-listers, international media and celebrities who jet-setted from across the globe to be part of this uber-glitzy event that’s already one of the highlights of the jam-packed international fashion landscape.

And international it was! Thirty-five designers representing no fewer than 17 countries strutted their stuff on the runways and in presentations.

Homegrown talents like Dima Ayad, Lama Jouni, Zeena Zaki, Manel, Angelo Estera and Michael Cinco rubbed shoulders with the likes of Indonesian designer Toton by Makeover, Turkish Les Benjamins, Lebanon’s Antoine Kareh, the UAE’s Velvety Couture and Australian Paolo Sebastian.

A highlight of the week was esteemed haute couture Indian designer Manish Maholtra closing proceedings with a spectacular extravaganza of style.

As for trends, two overriding ones stood head and shoulders above the rest: Unashamed, glorious 1950’s Hollywood glamour and deepest, darkest, jet black.

But don’t take our word for it, indulge in a taster of one of the most glamorous fashion weeks of 2025.

THE DESIGNERS

PAOLO SEBASTIAN

Paolo Sebastian made their debut as the first Australian brand to grace the runways at Dubai Fashion Week.

Romantic, ballet-inspired, dreamy silhouettes pirouetted down the runways, with tulle swishing and feathers floating.

Sequins, vintage-inspired lace and rhinestones embellished the soft, floating gowns in their subtle neutrals, transporting the viewer to a fantasy escape like few others.

TOTON

Toton Januar’s TOTON 2025 collection with its subtle pastels and batik surface designs gave us a flavour of fabulous Indonesia and its solid tradition of artisans.

The craftsmanship of the subtle satin and lace pieces was awe-inspiring, the silhouettes classic and often incorporated upcycled and recycle fabrics – a nod to sustainability in a global and complex world of fashion. Dreamy, with a conscience, to say the least!

MANEL

Manel’s colour palette reminded one of 1920s and 1930s Paris. In fact, the collection was aptly named ‘Paris Day to Night’.

Uber-glamorous gowns in subtle hues swished on the runway: satin, Chantilly lace, textured velvet and jacquard blended beautifully to portray a timeless, effortlessly chic and understated opulence and luxe.

The designer suggested that each piece could be dressed up or down to take the wearer from day to night and vice versa. We need no convincing!

WEINSANTO

Another designer that paid tribute to the inimitable Paris fashion scene, Weinsanto, drew inspiration from the famous Maxim restaurant.

The colour palette of black, beige , pink, brown, nude and white was endearingly reminiscent of the decadent Art Nouveau era.

Embroidery added a touch of opulence to this gutsy range.

The overall effect was a fusion of fashion, art and storytelling – with every piece exceedingly covetable.

VELVETY COUTURE

This collection paid tribute to the legend that is architect Zaha Hadid.

The silhouettes at Velvety Couture were sculptural and architectural, the curves and the dynamic designs mimicked Hadid’s Heydar Aliyev Centre with their striking contours, opulence and fluidity.

Exquisite couture pieces in taffeta, chiffon and velvet in classic grey, silver, black and white made a series of unforgettably bold and striking statements.

Contemporary shapes and tactile surfaces in classic black and white were the backbone of this very wearable collection at Main Character Energy.

Pointy shoes and black lips added a sharpness, grittiness and modernity to the voluminous coats, jackets and maxi skirts in their textured surface designs.

LAMA JOUNI

Lama Jouni’s A/W collection is a fusion of luxury and streetwear, with them emphasis on wearability, practicality and luxe glamour.

Chic dresses rubbed shoulders with trouser and jacket co-ords, asymmetrical skirts and cropped jersey tops in black and monochromatic tones.

Smart cut-outs revealed plenty skin – oozing sex-appeal.

TARA BABYLON

British-Iraqi designer Tara Babylon brought plenty New York (where she’s currently based) savvy to the runways of Dubai fashion Week.

Desert prints on stunning recycled tapestries made for an exotic mix of texture and shapeliness – all with a decided nod to the Middle East.

Weaving, printing, crocheting and embroidery combined to create a range that is undeniably special and unique.

BLSSD

A fabulously contemporary collection of cheeky sleeveless boob tube dresses, slacks, jackets and coats were showcased at BLSSD.

The styles at this UAE-based ready-to-wear designer were wonderfully experimental and daringly bold. Silver featured in many pieces, but other colours also made their debut.

This is street fashion with a fabulous and luxe twist.

ANTOINE KAREH

1950s Hollywood style doesn’t come any more glamorous than this collection by Antoine Kareh!

Subtle, muted nutmeg, beige, white and the most beautiful shades of blue in satin and lace were showcased in a collection that can only be described as the epitome of elegance.

A sky blue satin dress with an oversized bow may well have been the most divine piece in all of the shows!
