New academic year is well underway at The Lir Academy!

Applications for our 2026-2027 undergraduate programmes are now open! We are delighted to preview on Friday 17th our first production of the academic year, Love’s Labour’s Lost by William Shakespeare, directed by Davey Kelleher. The cast consists of our new final-year acting students and these productions will be crewed by our stage management and technical theatre students.

Audition Preparation Courses

Thinking of auditioning for drama school or just want to nail your monologue? Learn more about our upcoming audition courses and which one would best suit your needs.

Audition Workshop Weekend 
6th & 7th December / 13th & 14th December

At this acting audition workshop, one of the core acting teachers at The Lir Academy will guide participants through preparing for auditions, through careful selection of monologues and developing characterisation. We have two courses running in December December 6th & 7th – book at this link and 13th & 14th, book at this link.

Audition Masterclass (Two-Weekends)
1st & 2nd November, 8th & 9th November

This two-weekend, intensive course is for those who wish to master audition techniques and fully prepare their monologues. General audition presentation, delivery, attitude and focus will be covered and the course will end with a mock audition session for drama school to practice the skills learned during the course.

Online Audition Workshop (One-Day-Long)
22nd November

At this acting audition workshop, participants will be guided through the process of preparing for drama school auditions over Zoom, through careful selection of monologues and developing characterisation. This workshop will be extremely useful for those preparing for The Lir Academy auditions and/or any other drama school that participants may be applying to.

Roger McHugh Bursary Winner

We are delighted to announce 2024 Acting Grad Allie P. O’Neill as the inaugural recipient of our Roger McHugh Bursary! This bursary is an award for Lir alumni to support the development of theatre new works. Her proposed play, Alice, is based on the life of Alice Morton, a woman who fled Ireland after being accused of adultery in the early 20th century

Blú Hanley, Senegal IMPACT Project

Over the summer, our Head of Lighting, Blú Hanley, spent a month teaching lighting on a newly created course in Dakar, at Senegal’s Institut Mondial des Professionnels des Arts de la Culture et des Technologies (IMPACT).

IMPACT is a non-profit organisation that helps towards the development of professional and technical training within the arts and culture sector.

Youth Theatre Practice Symposium

Youth Theatre Ireland’s Youth Theatre Practice Symposium: Finding Your Authentic Voice takes place at TUD Dublin on November 14–15, exploring how artists can discover and celebrate their authentic voices through language, dialect, writing, spoken word, music, and theatre practice.

As part of the event, Shaz Oye, Director of Equality & Access at The Lir Academy, will host a panel on Saturday, November 15 exploring the experiences of young Black and mixed race creatives in Ireland and reflecting on the role of youth theatre in fostering artistic and personal growth.
