NARS at Brown Thomas

Feel free to share:

Francois Nars opened the new boutique in BROWN THOMAS with a personal appearance by the great man himself. One of the world’s most successful makeup artists François Nars came to prominence through doing Marc Jacobs ’ show, after the designer left Perry Ellis to start his own label. Nars’ created some of the period’s most memorable makeup looks, including Anna Sui’s 1992 show, in which Nars shaved off Kristen McMenamy’s eyebrows. He returned to the runway in 2009, after a 10 year break, collaborating with his old friend Marc Jacobs to create 65 individual looks.

The Frenchman broke into editorial in 1984 with the support and encouragement of then Vogue fashion editor Polly Mellen, in New York in the 1980s. Nars and Steven Meisel regularly collaborated, and along with Oribe Canales, the trio’s shared aesthetic soon dominated and continued to be prominent in the aesthetic of fashion photography in the period.

François Nars launched his own makeup line, Nars cosmetics, in 1994. The line began with 12 lipsticks, sold exclusively at Barneys New York in sleek black packaging designed by Fabien Baron . Nars shot the brands first advertising campaign in 1996, an experience that would lead him to embark on a secondary career as a photographer. The Frenchman has shot editorial for numerous publications, including Vogue Japan.

Born in the south of France, Nars’ affluent parents exposed their child to fashion at a young age. Nars’ mother Claudette encouraged her son’s interest in the industry, talking her talented son with her on appointments with Paris’ greatest makeup artists, in order to secure him his first assistant role with Olivier Echaudemaison.

The range is more extensive and the boutique square footage has tripled in size giving NARS the space and profile in deserves in BROWN THOMAS. So the main headliners are THE ORGASM AND ERDEM COLLECTIONS. Get ready to fall for the Orgasm Collection from NARS. This award winning collection of beauty products are universally flattering on every skin tone.

Eclectic. Eccentric. Enigmatic.

This summer, flowers go free-spirited with famed fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu’s captivating mix of originality and oddity. Modern, unexpected shades and petal-soft textures meet the British visionary’s signature floral aesthetic, creating an exclusive, custom-designed collection that flourishes with feverish femininity. Lips feel the rush. Cheeks get flushed. Eyes mesmerize. When fashion goes full bloom, expect the unexpected.

Take a look at the best sellers and make up if you haven’t experienced NARS before….

In Francois own words…..

What’s your best beauty rule?

I always say that, regardless of what’s on the runway, regardless of what fashion tells you to do, as long as you look great, then go for it. But don’t pick out a trend that is not really you. Always pick up whatever makes you feel good, strong and powerful.

What’s the one shade of lipstick every woman should own?

One shade? That’s so hard. I would say Belle du Jour because I love Catherine Deneuve and that movie so much. And it’s such a great colour that works on everyone.

Who or what inspires you now?

Beauty in many different forms. Beauty is still what drives me every day. If beauty was taken away, I think I would die in a way, so it’s really my driving force everyday.

A pleasure to meet Francois and the NARS team in Brown Thomas….not everyday you meet an innovator, entrepreneur, make up artist, photographer who owns an island in the South Pacific.
