LFW 2020 – Temperley London

Feel free to share:

Pynck was back at London Fashion Week this year in time to see a great show from Temperley London. The catwalk showcased the best of the Somerset-born designer’s Summer 2020 collection. Alongside the stunning floral chiffon summer dresses the brand is famous for, this collection also featured examples of Temperley’s first foray into denim, such as high-waisted dark blue denim shorts. However, designer and founder Alice Temperley hasn’t forsaken her classically romantic evening gowns, which also featured heavily.

This is only the second year London Fashion Week, organised by the British Fashion Council, has opened its esteemed doors to the public, giving fashion students and members of the public alike the opportunity to see some of the biggest brands’ new collections. Following sell-out success for House of Holland and Self-Portrait in 2019, Temperley London and De La Vali chose to host public shows in 2020.

In this public showcase, a first-time for Temperley London, 70% of the collection modelled was daywear, rather than a focus on its acclaimed bridal and eveningwear.

Following the catwalk was an opportunity to hear from the designer herself, in conversation with fashion businesswoman Caroline Issa. Covering topics ranging from her upbringing in the Somerset countryside to preparations for her brand’s twentieth birthday, Temperley maintained that her focus was always on the creative side of the process, and insisted she has never been beholden to the latest fashion trends. She credits her incredible success to creating truly wearable, functional women’s clothing that lasts longer than just a single season. In her words, “If I wasn’t wearing my own clothes 99.9% of the time, I’d be doing something wrong.”
