USPA names Yale University alumna Liz Brayboy as new I/I Chair
YALE University alumna Liz Brayboy has been named as the new chairperson of the United States Polo Association Intercollegiate/Interscholastic program at the historic Ivy League college.
The former Yale polo team captain has been an alumni advisor and manager and came up through the I/I programme, holding a 0-goal handicap on grass and 1 goal in the arena.
A key team player, Liz has lined out for the USA team for many years at annual international tournaments in Dublin and Wicklow, Ireland. Liz, along with sub-chairs USPA Woman of the Year 2018 Cindy Halle and Miranda Luna have already realised early success in launching a restructured programme for I/I.
“I think a lot of what I/I needs right now is leadership and facilitation which is the ability to identify what needs to be done and in certain cases, delegate and in others, drive it,” said Liz Brayboy when she spoke with the USPA. “We have an excellent group of staff and chairs and I believe we will have a good set of committees, so we need to keep them all driving towards our goals.”
Liz has coached at Garrison Forrest School in Maryland, USA and has been part of the Yale polo programme for over 20 years. A playing member of Giant Valley Polo Club in Connecticut, USA, her commitment and long-term association with the sport earmarked her as the ideal successor to the previous I/I chair, the late David Wenning.
“I want the membership to understand that I/I represents both the future and the history of the sport in the United States,” Liz Brayboy added. “It is our job to ensure that others see this as clearly as we do.”
