Berry Bros. & Rudd – Mature St Emilion to uncork now
Château Grand-Pey-Lescours is unlike most of its neighbours in St Emilion. Rather than releasing wines in their infancy, Jean-Marie Bouldy – the owner here – likes to keep stock back until he feels it’s ready to be drunk.
This 2012 is just one of the vintages that had – until recently – been gently maturing in his cellars. Sweet red-berried fruit mingles with savoury, smoky notes and a mineral freshness. The tannins are supple from time in bottle, offering a round and generous wine that is crying out to be uncorked.
