HWD Daily – Welcome Home, Hamilton
Welcome Home, Hamilton
Wait for it: you can now watch Hamilton from the comfort of your very own couch. What’s more, says critic Sonia Saraiya, the filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Pulitzer Prize-winning hip-hopera—available now on Disney+—does exactly what it needs to do: “It’s worth seeing the play staged, no matter how many times you may have heard the album,” she writes. “Hamilton: The Movie doesn’t screw up its one job, of bringing the play home to a nation currently completely unable to see any version of Hamilton live—let alone the one on Broadway. If anything, it excels at getting out of the musical’s way, so that the spectacle can be transporting even though it’s simply a filmed stage play.”
Elsewhere in HWD, Rich McHugh speaks with lawyers for Harvey Weinstein’s victims about the nearly $19 million settlement they were awarded this week; Bob Odenkirk and Kaitlyn Dever stop by our Little Gold Men podcast; Hillary Busis dishes about The Baby-Sitters Club with creator Rachel Shukert and executive producer Lucia Aniello; and The Crown coronates its third Princess Margaret.
What’s His Name, Man?
