Portuguese winemakers have a preserved heritage of more than 300 native grape varieties. Some say Portugal remains the last frontier of wine in Western Europe. Portuguese wines are often a blend of up to thirty grape varieties, most of which have no equivalent outside of Portugal. There is so much to taste and discover in the multi-layered novelty and intrigue of Portugal’s beautiful old vines. The exciting range of diverse wines from vines planted in all types of soil is at the soul of Portuguese winemaking.
Quinta do Crasto Reserva Old Vines is made from 70-year-old vines — this red is a true field blend and a perfect reflection of their world-class terroir. Crasto red is a traditional field blend hand-harvested in the Douro and is a marvellous matrix of fruit and velvety tannins. Pousio Selection red is an opportunity to try an intriguing red blend from the Mars-like red soil so rare for Alentejo. Crasto white is the Chablis of the Douro. From a careful selection of 40% Viosinho; 30% Gouveio; 30% Rabigato. Pessoa ‘Summer Wine’ is Vinho Verde but not as you know it. An extraordinarily fresh Vinho Verde from a single varietal Loureiro and made Kabinett style by super cool couple Jorge and Livia. As Jorge said, “Perfect for drinking and looking out over the waves.” Pousio Selection white is made from vines grown in pure red iron-rich soil not typical in Alentejo. It is an Albarino blended with local Antão resulting in a spectacularly clean, crisp wine.
