Incognito Art Auction just days away for Jack & Jill
THE who’s who from the worlds of entertainment, the arts and fashion are among the contributors to this year’s Incognito Art Auction for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, taking place this Thursday 22 April at 10am GMT+1.
What makes this particular art auction unique is that the identity of the artists behind each of the 3,000 postcard-sized works is top secret until the sales closed, and with last year’s sale sold out in minutes art lovers are urged to be quick off the mark this Thursday.
“From a postcard from The Edge to a postcard from (renowned Irish artist and designer) Robert Ballagh and the many other postcards in between I would like to pay tribute to the 1,200 artists who have given so generously of their time and talent to take part in this year’s Incognito during what has been an extremely difficult time for the arts world,” said Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation CEO Carmel Doyle. “My hope is that in offering their beautiful art as a currency for care we can also help shine a spotlight on their work and introduce new audiences to their genius.”
Among this year’s contributing artists are U2’s The Edge, rock star Bob Geldof, fashion designer Paul Costello, comedians Tommy Tiernan and Jason Byrne, former Dublin hurling captain David Sweeney and Nobel laureate Dr William Campbell.
The largest art exhibition in Ireland since 2017 has been curated by the Jack & Jill Foundation’s Lucinda Hall in a fundraising initiative of more than 80 percent of running costs for children born with catastrophic illness.
“Each year Jack &Jill has to raise over €4 million to continue doing what we do, supporting families to look after their sick children at home where they belong,” said Carmel Doyle. “Less than 20 percent of our funding comes from government and with Covid-19 continuing to restrict public-facing fundraising that we would normally do, we are relying hugely on the generosity and support of the public for Incognito 2021.”
Added Carmel Doyle, “Each piece bought from Jack & Jill means four hours of specialist home nursing care for one of our 374 children.”
