Day 5 at Russia Fashion Week in Moscow saw Extreme Proportions, Avant-garde Design and Deconstructivist Offerings. Oh, and for a change Menswear was the Star of the Show.

Day 5 of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia came with umpteen pleasant surprises and its fair share of ‘wow’ moments! The line-up was varied, with strong representation from foreign participants – Dutch, Peruvian, Cypriot, South Korean and Polish – adding their respective international flavours to the day.
Local houses like Marfa Fedarova, HARD by HSE Art and Design School, Yana Besfamilnaya, Rogov and Volegov were holding their own and presented diverse and interesting collections, mostly by means of catwalk shows in front of live audiences – a far cry from recent Fashion Weeks in other capitols sans audience! Perhaps a good place to start is Menswear, which featured prominently on Day 5.

Tommazo, a Cypriot brand, presented their collection by means of a charmingly romantic filmed entry. Beautifully textured jackets and coats in wool felt, faux leather and cotton were displayed over printed shirts and classic trousers, each ensemble having been carefully considered with regards to shape, colour and overall ambience. The menswear range, in particular, stood out in its completeness and attention to every detail.

Hot contender for best avant-garde designs on Day 5 of Fashion Week Russia is hands down maverick brand Rogov. This fashion house, created by TV host and fashion expert Alexandr Rogov in 2013, has a cult following in Russia, with the branded sweatshirts and designer embroidery being particularly sought after. The A/W2021/22 collection features an eclectic mix of sweatshirts, intricate coats, jackets, dresses and skirts, all with the extravagant Rogov signature features – classics, but not as you know them!

Another local designer worth mentioning is Volegov, a brand founded in 2018, whose classic collection of coats were very wearable indeed and as such struck a chord with much of the audience at the live show.

One of the highlights of Day 5 at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week Russia came from HARD by HSE Art & Design School. Fun, experimental and seriously pushing the boundaries of fashion as we know it, not unlike the Russian Avant-Garde movement, but for fashion.

We started on a poetic note, journeyed through the Avant-garde and Deconstructivism and it is befitting to conclude on a rosy note! Peruvian designer Camille Defago presented their collection of body-hugging pieces by means of animated mannequins.
Enjoy the pastel pinkness and pure prettiness of it all!
