A MONTH of world-class horse racing on the flat track.

Empress Josephine has won the Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh, beating out favoured stablemate Joan of Arc. The winning horse trained by Aidan O’Brien under jockey Seamie Heffernan went off at 14-1 odds on 23 May.

Mac Swiney edged past stablemate Poetic Flare to win the Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh, the 11-1 horse trained by Jim Bolger “stuck his head out” according to jockey Rory Cleary for the win.

Coeursamba took the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Pouliches at Paris Longchamp on 16 May in the French 1000 Guineas. The three-year-old filly on 66-1 odds trained by Jean-Claude Rouget with jockey Cristian Demuro aboard handily outpaced the favoured Aidan O’Brien-trained Qipco 1000 Guineas winner, Mother Earth.

At the Emirates Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Paris Longchamp on 16 May, St Marks Basilica trained by Ireland’s Aidan O’Brien with jockey Frankie Dettori aboard too the French 2000 Guineas.

Aidan O’Brien claimed his third consecutive win in the Qipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket Racecourse under jockey Frankie Detorri on 2 May. The 10-1 odds daughter of Zoffany took the lead from mid-pack to win.

Under jockey Kevin Manning, Poetic Flare took the Qipco 2000 Guineas at Newmarket

Poetic Flare and jockey Kevin Manning along with trainer Jim Bolger claimed the flat season Qipco 2000 Guineas Classic opener at Newmarket earlier this month. The win on 1 May for the trainer and jockey reprised the 2013 Classic with Poetic Flare sire Dawn Approach.

It was jockey Frankie Detorri and Mother Earth, winning the Quipco 1000 Guineas at Newmarket
