IMMA Campus June 2022
The June IMMA Outdoors calendar is packed full of events and activities for everyone to enjoy. From Music in the Courtyard, to late evening yoga, film screenings, talks, workshops to book launches and readings, these are just some of the events happening as part of IMMA Nights on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Highlights include the launch of the book Accidental Gods by Anna del Subin including a conversation with renowned writer Marina Warner; a Gate to Gate Heritage Talk that will bring you on the search for the lost Priory of the Knights Hospitallers; the launch of a new series of prints by artist Shane Cullen; Seed STUDIO a reading group that explores our connection with the natural world; poetry and music events as part of the More than the reverb series and the screening of Fatima Was Me City a documentary film by Vinny Murphy.
Also in June IMMA Outdoors presents a new artist commission by Em’kal Eyongakpa, this immersive sensory installation on the garden terrace invites you to sit or lie down to feel and hear audio signals from recordings of lullabies, chants, laments, poems and folk songs gathered between Southeast Nigeria, Southern Cameroon and Ireland.

Four Windows from The Book of Ballymote
Print Launch by Shane Cullen
Thurs 9 June / 6.30pm / No booking required / All welcome
In association with Stoney Road Press we are delighted to host the launch of a new series of prints by Shane Cullen. These prints are inspired by the Book of Ballymote a late fourteenth century Gaelic manuscript and one of the most significant cultural artefacts associated with the West of Ireland.

Fri 17 & Thurs 23 June / No booking required / Free
For the next event in the series on 17 June, performers focus on lullabies, laments, love songs and poetry, featuring poets James Obijiaku (Ijele) and Samuel Yakura, and traditional singers Ayuk, John Tunney, Róisín Ní Ghallóglaigh, and others. On 23 June the tradition of the singing circle will be explored, participants share and teach songs ranging from Irish to Nigerian/Cameroonian heritage.
Tones and Tints: Oil Painting Workshop
3, 10, 17, 24 June / 11am – 1.30pm
This workshop is designed for beginners who would like to grasp an understanding of painting with oils. Acting as one continuous workshop divided between four days, over four weeks, you will learn about the qualities of the medium itself, the basic rules of application, the purpose of an underpainting, and colour matching techniques to achieve a finished painting.

Book Launch & Conversation

Join us for an evening in celebration of Accidental Gods: On Men Unwittingly Turned Divine by Anna Della Subin, with special guests renowned mythographer, novelist, and literary critic Marina Warner and author Mark O’ Connell. Join us for readings, literary conversations with drinks and music in the Courtyard.
