IMMA Talks invites you to join us for talks with artists and curators who explore how ideas of ‘making kin’ interweave a range of creative practices present at IMMA, as part of its upcoming exhibition programme. The programme features an Artists’ Conversation with a selection of exhibiting artists in the ambitious new group exhibition Staying with the Trouble opening on 2 May; and a drop-in Curator’s Lunchtime Talk exploring the art of quilt making in the exhibition Kith & Kin: The Quilts of Gee’s Bend.

Due to popular interest we are pleased to announce more tickets are now available for the Artists’ Discussion, Staying with the Trouble now taking place in The People’s Pavilion at IMMA on Thursday 1 May 5pm.

Artists’ Conversation Staying with the Trouble

Join us for the exhibition preview and artists’ conversation with special guests whose work is part of the exciting new exhibition Staying with the Trouble. This conversation shares a range of perspectives on themes of the exhibition and invites deeper reflection on the role of ‘making kin’ and ‘sowing worlds’, in the face of ecological and social crises. Artists speaking include Laura Fitzgerald, Eoghan Ryan, Jacqui Shelton, Marie Foley, and Atsushi Kaga. Followed by the exhibition launch and celebratory reception.

Join Georgie Thompson, Curator, Exhibitions, IMMA for an in-gallery conversation and walk-through of the exhibition Kith & Kin: The Quilts of Gee’s Bend. This talk introduces the rich context that gave rise to the distinct tradition of making quilts in Gee’s Bend, and its community of over five generations of Black American quiltmakers located on the banks of the Alabama River. The quilts are a testament to resilience, community, and a legacy woven through generations.

Curator’s Talk: Hamad Butt with Dominic Johnson

Listen back to guest curator Dominic Johnson for an insightful gallery talk and walk through of the acclaimed exhibition, Hamad Butt: Apprehensions.
