Hen’s Teeth – Art & Lifestyle@ 13, Fade Steet
Hen’s Teeth is an art and lifestyle store at 13 Fade Street, Dublin and online. They commission and curate limited-edition prints by Irish and international artists. You’ll find these alongside a carefully selected range of books, magazines and homeware goodies from the likes of Parra, Ro Collection and the Vintage Hub. They also offer personal and corporate curation, making your spaces memorable for all the right reasons.
I had the pleasure of attending one of many pop up events held at the Hen’s Teeth showcasing Patria Lenehan. Her ever-growing collection of garments inspired by the Irish landscape and the style and stories of the past. Her work is based around the values she holds in everyday life – the idea that less is more, and that investing in quality and authentic design will enrich the daily life of an individual.
Born and raised by the sea in Ireland, Petria now lives with her family in the Hudson valley, New York. She chooses to work with high quality fabrics that recall home, enabling her to maintain a close connection to the rich heritage of craft in Ireland and the UK. In particular, Donegal tweed, Irish linen, Scottish cashmere and English ventile cotton – fabrics that are steeped in tradition, hard-wearing and long-lasting. Each garment is carefully produced from a small factory in New York City and the knitwear is made in Ireland.
And showcasing Richard Gilligan, work exists somewhere between classic reportage and fine art documentary photography. Projects have included his award winning book DIY, a collection of landscapes and portraits of life in homemade skateparks worldwide. He holds an MFA in Photography from University of Ulster, Belfast and a BA honours degree in Documentary Photography from the University of Wales, Newport. His photographs have been widely exhibited with recent shows in Dublin, London, Munich, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Sydney and Copenhagen. He was awarded the 2013 SHOWCASE Photography Award from Gallery of Photography, Ireland for emerging talent in Europe and was recently selected by Time Magazine as one of the top 9 Photographers to watch from Ireland. Richard is currently based in Brooklyn, NY.
The range of books, prints, homeware, furniture and magazines are a real delight and unique in Dublin. Holding regular evening exhibitions this adds to vibrant Fade Street area and the concept of the shop.
A delight to meet the owner Greg Spring and Rosie Gogan-Keogh and here they story and vision for the business.
