British Hairdressing Awards 2019 @Grosvenor House, London
Leeds based hairdresser Robert Eaton won the coveted British Hairdresser of the Year award at a glittering ceremony in London last night. Eaton comes from a family of distinguished hairstylists, headed by his father, Russell Eaton, in the Yorkshire area and beyond. The annual British Hairdressing Awards, attended by Pynck, were held at the elegant JW Marriott hotel, Grosvenor House in Mayfair.
Dubbed the Oscars of the hair world, the black tie event was hosted by Hairdressers Journal and sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional. It celebrated the very best in British hairdressing across a wide range of regional and specialist categories.
No one envied the judges’ task of narrowing down the nominees and picking a winner among such esteemed hairstylists. Whether they had been in the game for over thirty years or were relatively new to the profession, all had created incredibly visionary styles.
Another noticeable element of the night was the obvious sense of community among the nominees, onlookers and hosts of the BHA. From those who had simply come to see their idols in the hairdressing world, to nominated salon owners, everyone cheered with equal enthusiasm for every deserving winner announced. Most winners in their acceptance speeches thanked their mentors and tight-knit salon teams, generously crediting much of their achievement to their talented colleagues.
The awards, compered by Rylan Clark-Neal with his usual informal and cheeky style, got underway with the regional categories, with awards for the best hairdresser in Eastern, London, Midlands, North Eastern, North Western, Northern Ireland, Scottish, Southern, Wales & South West, and International regions. Following this was a musical interlude from pop rock band The Hoosiers. Next we heard from the Specialist Categories, which included best Trend Image, Afro Hairdresser, Artistic Team, Avant-Garde Hairdresser, Men’s Hairdresser, Newcomer, and Schwarzkopf Colour Technician.
Many of the winners at this year’s awards had explored and pushed the boundaries of hair and its possibilities, creating inspiring trends that will echo all over the world. Warm colours, such as auburn and chestnut, were popular for the winter months, and many styles suggested curls were experiencing a comeback.
Robert Eaton, British Hairdresser of the Year 2019
This was certainly clear in the collection of the night’s champion, Robert Eaton. As a highly skilled colour expert, many of his styles were a decisive homage to the seventies. Below are some examples of his collection.
