Kayla’s Kitchen

Feel free to share:

Kayla's Kitchen

Kayla is a 12yr old girl with a neurodevelopmental disorder called Rett Syndrome.  Kayla’s Dad, Emmett, was her full-time carer for eight years after she was diagnosed at two. In that time, through continuous research and working with nutritionists and dieticians at The National Children’s Hospital in Tallaght, he has learned the nutritional and functional benefits of a whole variety of foods.

Looking after a busy household with Kayla’s mum Paula  traveling for work, Emmett found batch cooking to be the simplest way to manage a young family along with a child of very special needs without compromising on taste or nutritional value. Soon after starting, Kayla’s Kitchen began providing delicious meals for friends and family.

Kayla’s uncle Karl, who recently passed away from Motor Neuron Disease, used the delivery service during the last year of his life. This gave him the independence he needed to stay in his own home until just before he passed. Kayla’s grandparents who are in their eighties eat from Kayla’s Kitchen everyday. They order every two weeks, taking away the stress and hassle of having to plan, shop and cook for themselves every evening. Now more than ever this service means they don’t have to leave the house as often reducing the risk of becoming infected with the Corona Virus.

We wanted to open up Kayla’s Kitchen to others who may benefit from ready made meals of great quality food.

Kayla’s Kitchen is approved by Missy Kayla (she has a very discerning palette for a 12yr old) and by the Tallaght Hospital Diet Clinic, endorsed by her Consultant Paediatrician, Denise McDonald.

Each year, 10% of the retained profits will go to Missy Kayla Trust . The Trust was set up to provide our Kayla with the best possible quality of life and providing for her future.

COVID 19 – RISK REDUCTION AND PREPAREDNESS AT KAYLA’S KITCHEN

IN RESPONSE TO THE OUTBREAK OF THE COVID 19 VIRUS WE WILL BE IMPLEMENTING SOME PRECAUTIONARY PRACTICES FOR OUR DELIVERIES OVER THE COMING WEEKS.

We have standard practices in operation at Kayla’s Kitchen as part of our Food Safety Management Plan which are intended to reduce the risk of spread of infection and contamination. These are operated year round under the supervision of HSE Environmental Health Officers and are also appropriate in cases such as this COVID 19 outbreak.

Our delivery service will be maintained throughout and should you find yourself or your family ‘self-isolating’, whether as a precaution or through infection, we will be happy to deliver to your address.

So, having taken advice of local health staff we will be introducing the following measures as standard practice when delivering your Kayla’s Kitchen orders.

1. The items in each order will be sanitised using a Sanitiser Spray and then each order will be individually bagged before dispatch. Each item is hermetically sealed so there is no risk of contamination and the sanitising solution used is certified as food safe in any case.

2. The delivery driver will use hand sanitiser at each stop before putting on blue latex gloves.

3. The delivery driver will place the bagged order where directed to; on your doorstep, inside your front door or on your kitchen counter. The delivery driver will still also be happy to put the food items in your freezer if you require such help. At all times it will be perfectly safe, as long as you maintain a polite distance.

4. The delivery driver will then return to the delivery vehicle, dispose of the blue gloves and rinse hands with sanitising solution again.

5. This process will be repeated at each and every delivery stop.

These precautions will remain in place until such time as we are advised by local HSE officials that they are no longer necessary.

If you decide to self-isolate, whether as a precaution or as a result of infection, we can implement further safety measures and will be happy to deliver to you and help you in any way we can.
