Master Distiller Noel Sweeney is presenting the ‘Grains of Wisdom’ webinar from Powerscourt Distillery
The Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame member is taking viewers through all aspects of spirit production and whiskey maturation in an online broadcast from the new distillery in Wicklow, Ireland.
“It is like anything you would make,” said Noel Sweeney of the four essential ingredients that make Irish whiskey. “If your ingredients aren’t right you don’t make anything of quality.”

Yeast, one of the four essential ingredients in the making of Fercullen Irish Whiskey
Water, barley, yeast and a well-seasoned barrel are all the ingredients to the creation of a great Irish whiskey and by the end of the webinar at the very least viewers will have developed at the very least, a virtually well developed palate. The water itself is sourced from the Powerscourt Estate in Wicklow while barley and yeast are from among the best European resources for whiskey maturation in barrels that once by and large held bourbon.

The spirit distillation and maturation process concludes with bottled Fercullen Irish Whiskey
“The bourbon barrels give a nice and sweet flavour,” Noel Sweeney explained. “Other barrels that we can use are from wine casks to sherry, madeira, port rum, all give a nice consistency.”
The weekly Fercullen Irish Whiskey webinars are hosted by Powerscourt Distillery Marketing Manager Caroline Gardiner every Thursday until the end of April.
