Hairdressers Journal Virtual Week – The Best Apps for Hairdressers to Try Now
Hairdressers Journal has come out to support their clients and friends in the industry who are struggling to keep their businesses afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdown restrictions mean hairdressing salons are not allowed to open as usual, and many hairdressers are worrying not only about their ability to maintain income, but also about staying in touch with their clients.
This is where social media comes in handy. Casey Coleman of CHAIR salons joined the HJ virtual week to talk about how hairdressers can maximise their social media platforms while they are stuck at home and unable to reopen their salons for the time being. The ‘live’ Instagram feature is a simple and effective way to educate and communicate with followers, and offers them a chance to see more of your personality than in a post on your main feed.
Between extolling the craziness of TikTok with host Akesha, Casey had some app recommendations for hairdressers to make the most of their business or personal hair pages during this unprecedented time. Here are some of his favourites:
- Canva: provides animated templates for social media, including Instagram stories; offers the chance to make your own logos and posters, and can be used for Facebook as well. Casey calls it “a great way to brand yourself”.
- Planoly: this scheduling app can be very helpful in the running of a salon’s business page. It allows you to schedule your posts for when they’ll get the highest number of interactions and insights, so you can plan your content based on your audience.
- InShot: this video editing app allows you to add music to the background of a video, and even overlay voiceover.
- befunky: another handy photo editing app.
Casey also talked viewers through the apps and their many features. He advised paying attention to the ‘insights’ function on Instagram to make the most of your audience and increase traffic to your page.
