RA – Discover a gem from our Collection & share art resolution
60 seconds with ‘Vanity’
Our Friends are the heart of the RA and we can’t wait to welcome you back through our front doors. In the meantime, we’ll continue to bring you the very best art inspiration – straight to your inbox.
This week, we’re sharing the story behind Frank Cadogan Cowper’s Vanity, painted in 1907 and now part of the RA Collection.
Combining allusions to both Renaissance and Pre-Raphaelite painting, the work references a genre known as vanitas, which aimed to remind viewers of the fleeting nature of earthly possessions.
Find out more about this work in our 60-second video, or read more depth over on the blog. Enjoy!
