Innovative fashion talks happening live for World Environment & Oceans Day
THE second Fashinnovation Worldwide Talks is happening live online and on YouTube and Instagram until this Monday, 8th June in recognition of World Environment & Oceans Day in cooperation with the United Nation’s Conscious Fashion Campaign in New York City and around the world.
Sunil Sethi of the Fashion Design Council of India spoke about aiding fashion designers in a time of need
While featured showcases on Friday, 5th June and upcoming on Monday highlighted the first ever 3D Virtual Runway Show BIGTHINX along with a global fashion tech start-up backed by Prada with virtual models, the second summit since last April focused on the global fashion industry’s sustainable development goals including social justice.
The Fashinnovation world talks has brought more than 90 speakers together, using their voices to create a lasting impact on industry equality as well as providing a guiding framework for inclusivity and equality.
“Trying to help the designers will never work unless you provide them with a platform to do business,” said Sunil Sethi of the Fashion Design Council India at the opening talks on ‘Aiding Designers in a Time of Need’. “We need to do more than just fashion shows and we have done exactly that.”
The Fashion Design Council of India launched the Covid-19 Support Fund during the quarantine process as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, and the new programme is parallel to similar worldwide projects that have highlighted the plight of smaller fashion designers struggling to sustain their businesses. While the industry overall has sustained huge hits, many of the smaller, new, and emerging businesses may not survive.
“It isn’t just doing digital shows which we will,” added Sunil Sethi, “it is also taking the business online and creating a virtual platform for our designers where buyers can place orders and interact with designers.”
Panellists included in the second summit included Rebecca Minkoff, Coco Rocha and Alyse and Alexis Scaffidi alongside Sunil Sethi, discussing tops from solidarity to the climate crisis and tips and inspiration for start-up and scale-up companies.
Running throughout the summit was World Environment & Oceans theme which has been featured in ‘The Future of Fashion’ in its sustainability and innovation while combatting plastic waste, ocean pollution and the threatened Amazon Rainforest.
