Transformation well under way as the K Club gets set to reopen

Feel free to share:

THE sprawling K Club estate in Kildare, the home of the fabulous five-star hotel and resort on the River Liffey is set to reopen early in July as Ireland moves into the third phase of its post-pandemic roadmap.

The hotel’s magnificent lobby has undergone a sympathetic restoration in keeping with the history of the original house

Bought by Dublin-based businessman and entrepreneur Michael Fetherston in an agreement of sale earlier this year, restoration works in the magnificent lobby are nearly complete while plans are underway for the original 30 bedrooms in the hotel.

Meanwhile members of the newly rechristened Straffan Golf Club have been on course at Palmer North and Palmer South since the onset of phase two recovery in early June and will finally gain access clubhouses including the former Ryder Cup Course, and the Smurfit Course.

“Michael Fetherston’s intent is to bring the (K Club) up in terms of standard and five-star service, absolutely maintaining that while striving for higher standards and service especially in the food aspect,” said Director of Sales John Costelloe exclusively to Pynck.com. “(We want to insure) that our brand and our image is one that is very welcoming and open to everybody. I think that is an important message from Michael Fetherston.”

While hotel interiors have been entirely refurbished the original ethos of the historic house remains in accommodation and space that few can provide due to the sheer magnitude offered in five restaurants and 134 bedrooms. Renovation investment includes a new walking and cycling trail of six kilometres, to be increased an additional two kilometres with optional picnics provided along the riverside.

“One of the advantages is that the (K Club) is so large,” said John Costelloe. “Our ratio of bedrooms to restaurant space is such that we have space that we can roll into in terms of serving food and beverages. “We will certainly be engaging with all hygiene protocols and we have a fairly robust system in place, doing our utmost to make sure that happens behind the scenes (while) being as close as possible to what our guests would have had before Covid-19.”

While the K Club will open its magnificent entrance doors to the public in early July, renovation works will continue very much behind the scenes. Rebranded restaurants and casual dining spaces will be open from Thursdays to Saturdays nightly, offering guests and patrons all the resort has to offer which includes refurbished golf courses and outdoor adventure and family activities.

“I think the K Club is in the hearts of an awful lot of people and throughout Ireland as well,” added John Costelloe. “It has been a part of the landscape from the beginning back in 1991 when it opened as a hotel and a new place in Irish tourism, and it is something we will definitely be celebrating.”
