It’s no secret that the natural world was a constant source of inspiration for Alexander McQueen. As the inimitable designer once remarked, “I have always loved the mechanics of nature, and to a greater or lesser extent my work is always informed by that.” As British Vogue drops the latest in its series of 14 landscape covers for August 2020, look back at 10 of Alexander McQueen’s most dramatic flora-and-fauna-themed collections, from his tundra-set autumn/winter 2003 show to the “darkly romantic” blossoms he used for spring/summer 2007.

McQueen’s final collection – which he presented just months before his death – saw models transformed into an “underwater tribe”. Vibrant patterns featured throughout, as did McQueen’s now-signature Armadillo shoe.
