word image 34 Irish Times wine critic John Wilson knows a thing or two about great wine, so when he gave good reviews for some of the Wines Direct exclusive wines they decided it would be a good time to offer them as one of their case packs.  Included are:

Cuvée No. 1. ‘Les Chanterelles’ – Coteaux Bourguignon AOC
Gamay, Pinot Noir
‘This is absolutely delicious; smooth, ripe, soft rounded red cherry and cassis fruits. Nicely concentrated yet fresh. A blend of 80% Gamay and 20% Pinot noir. A great all-rounder with food; try it with roast beetroot or mushroom risotto.’ John Wilson

Kamara ‘Pure Nimbus’ – Thessaloniki PGI
Xinomavro, Merlot, Syrah
‘A delicious, full-flavoured wine with the Xinomavro tannins balanced very well by the Merlot and Syrah; masses of brooding dark fruits, a firm structure and ripe tannins on the long, lingering finish. We enjoyed ours with Nigel Slater’s pork burgers, but grilled or roast red meats would be ideal.’ John Wilson

Château La Baronne ‘Les Chemins’ – Corbières AOP
Carignan, Grenache, Syrah
‘A very stylish, big, powerful, chewy, savoury wine packed with ripe dark fruit, cloves and liquorice. Perfect with herby, garlicky barbecued lamb.’ John Wilson

Weingut Brandl ‘Terrassen’ – Kamptal DAC
Riesling
‘Very seductive clean concentrated stewed apples with a hint of spice. Try it with pork chops with caramelised apples.’ John Wilson

Domaines Landron ‘la Louvetrie’ – Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine AOP (Sur Lie)
Melon de Bourgogne
‘What could be better than a plate of oysters or a handful of prawns with homemade garlic mayonnaise, accompanied by this delicious fresh, vibrant, fruit-filled Muscadet?’ John Wilson

José Pariente – Rueda DO
Verdejo
‘Lightly aromatic with succulent, ripe, textured exotic fruits and impeccably balanced acidity. Pairs well with all manner of fish and shellfish, white meats, lighter pasta dishes and creamy goat’s cheese salads.’ John Wilson

Price per case of six is €130.00
