You can’t beat a good facial – but how can you take it to the next level? Chelsee Lewis is here with all the answers. In the Professional Beauty webinar, Chelsee discusses how to combine your facials with different technologies in order to get the best results for your skin. This webinar is not only informative as a potential client but also from a business perspective as investing in these technologies in your salon will increase profitability due to the lower cost and increase margin. Chelsee highlights that whilst the machines themselves can seem fiscally steep, they are the gifts that keep on giving.

First off, we have HIFU (High-intensity focused ultrasound) which is a cosmetic treatment for skin tightening which considered to be a noninvasive and painless replacement for a facelift. The ultrasound technology uses energy to encourage the production of collagen, resulting in firmer skin. It works with the three different layers of your skin (Epidermis, Dermis, and

Subcutaneous fat) with three different cartridges. It heats the skin to encourage a wound response and subsequently increases collagen production to the skin. The results are fantastic and it is a facial you only have to do once a year! Therefore, despite the affluent price tag of a HIFU facial (£1,125 at the Chelsée), if you divide that by 12 months, it averages to the same cost as a regular facial. For a business, Lewis explains that it is a simple facial to keep running, you just need to purchase the cartridges and the gel to conduct the facial. Further advantages are that there is no recovery time needed after the facial and no side effects apart from slight potential redness.

The next is a radiofrequency facial, which Lewis has had years of experience with. It too works with collagen production but works more on the dermis layer and can be targeted at specific areas such as under the eyes, cheeks, and neck. The radio frequency facial works by creating an electric field which then causes the electrons within the molecules to rotate which causes the production of heat. Once it has reached 40-42 degrees, you use the tool to work the area for two minutes. The course for this treatment to be the most effective is 6 sessions (one every month for six months). Lewis’s clients love this treatment as they notice results immediately. Lewis states that even whilst she is working on the client during the facial, she can see the skin becoming plumper which is an incredible result.

The next high-tech facial is cryo, to which Lewis states; “everyone is using cryo”. It’s an amazing treatment with a plethora of benefits for the body as well as the face. With regards to facials, Lewis states it’s like having a giant ice cube cooling your face and pairs brilliantly with the radio frequency facial to cool the skin and instantly bring blood to the surface to give a fresh-faced look. A cryo facial chills the skin at -4 degrees to break down any inflammation in the skin which subsequently leads to skin tightening as well as locking in moisture by triggering a micro-chemical reaction within the skin cells.

And if that wasn’t enough, Lewis then goes on to discuss microcurrent. Despite having been around for years, a micro current facial is a great foundation to start building up your new tech collection. Micro-current came into being as part of a project to naturally lift the skin of stroke and palsy victims in hospitals and had exceptional results. It then made its way to the modern market and has been a trusty companion of salons for years. Essentially it is like a workout for the face as it stimulates the motor point of every single muscle in the face and neck. A typical course for the best effectiveness of the treatment is once a month and it works fantastically alongside all of the other facial treatments listed. From a business perspective, the great things about adding just one of these pieces of kit to your arsenal means that you are covering all bases for potential client concerns. It vamps up your current processes by taking you to the next level and ensures that you are keeping clients as you can offer them a wide range of treatments.

Lewis then treated us to a live demonstration of radiofrequency and cryo facial in order to give a visual representation of how well these treatments work. Lewis states that she feels like an artist as she sees the results happening before her eyes. With the radio frequency, Lewis was constantly checking the temperature of the skin to ensure the client’s comfort and once the implement has reached its optimum heat she began to speed up the movement of working the tool into the skin for 2 minutes. Once that had finished, Lewis went straight in with the cryo tool onto the client’s skin. The reason why the cooling of the skin is so important with regards to breaking down inflammation is that inflammation is premature ageing therefore the overruling of that Lewis states is a win. Therefore, to reduce the appearance of lines, this treatment is perfect.
