A bottle of alcohol Description automatically generated with medium confidence The secret of distillation was brought to Ireland circa 500 AD by Irish missionary monks who called the fermented liquid Uisce Beatha or water of life.   Tullamore DEW was founded in 1829 by the Williams family.  Today it is owned by William Grant & Sons Distillers who operate out of their brand new state of the art distillery at Clonminch just outside Tullamore in Co Offaly.

Their newest innovation, launched this month (October 2021) is the Tullamore D.E.W. Rouge, a 13 year old Irish single malt whiskey finished in red wine casks from Bordeaux.  I received a sample bottle to assess and was  impressed with its quality and  style.  There is a wonderful sweet flavour to the Tullamore Rouge, the sweetness is first flavour that stands out when you try it, which adds to its appeal.  I immediately thought, warm caramel pudding with coffee notes.  This is a soft style, sipping whiskey, ideal for enjoying a glass of on a cool autumn evening, it would be the ideal Christmas present for anyone who loves good quality Irish single malt.

Tullamore D.E.W. Rouge is now available exclusively in Dublin Airport price €58.00
