Daróg Wine Bar (Irish for “small oak tree”) offers a unique wine and dining experience that highlights organic and biodynamic wines, thoughtfully paired with seasonal dishes. Opened in July 2023 by husband-and-wife team Zsolt Lukács and Edel McMahon-Lukács, Daróg has quickly become known for its commitment to sustainability, quality, and community.
In 2025, Daróg Wine Bar was awarded a Bib Gourmand by the MICHELIN Guide, recognising its exceptional food at great value. Zsolt, a sommelier with twelve years of experience at the MICHELIN-starred Aniar Restaurant, was also honoured with a sommelier award from the Michelin Guide 2025, further cementing Daróg’s reputation for excellence in wine curation Daróg Wine Bar continues its Turas Fíona series with their first wine talk scheduled for Autumn 2025.
On Wednesday, 3rd September, Daróg will have a wine presentation by Thorsten Melsheimer of Weingut Melsheimer, a fifth-generation estate in the Mosel Valley known for its vibrant Rieslings and sustainable farming practices. This intimate event will include a guided tasting of five wines and a conversation with the winemaker.Since taking over the family estate in the early 1990s, Thorsten has worked with a deep commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Farming some of the Mosel’s steepest slate slopes — including the renowned Reiler Mullay-Hofberg vineyard — he produces wines that are alive with character and shaped by a hands-off, nature-led philosophy.
Guests will explore the influence of soil, slope, and sustainability through each glass, and hear directly from Thorsten about his journey from conventional farming to becoming a benchmark producer in the region.
