Christie’s has officially solidified its position as the premier destination in the London art market, outpacing the competition by £100 million in the latest auction cycle. With a commanding 63% market share and an exceptional 89% sell-through rate, these results underscore a robust global demand for high-caliber modern and contemporary masterpieces. Drawing participation from collectors in 67 countries, the season proved that Christie’s remains the primary engine of the London art market, delivering outstanding results for both iconic artists and prestigious private collections.

Performance vs low estimate
With participation from 67 countries and a 89% sell-through rate, the season saw world records for Dorothea Tanning, Toyen and Henry Moore, whose King and Queen achieved £26,345,000 — the top price of the season, which Christie’s has attained for the third consecutive series.
Christie’s also reaffirmed its position as the auction house for private collections, with standout results for the two landmark groupings: Modern Visionaries – The Roger and Josette Vanthournout Collection (146% of low estimate) and Spellbound: The Hegewisch Collection (170% of low estimate).
Underscoring this momentum, our Impressionist and Modern and Post-War and Contemporary day sales surpassed £34 million, doubling the result of our competitor’s equivalent sales, with 41% of lots sold above the high estimate.
Finally, in its 25th iteration, The Art of the Surreal sale sold 100% by lot and value, while the Modern British & Irish Evening sale achieved £11,639,000, selling 99% by value.
